My interest in photography began in my childhood, fascinated by the images and stories about other cultures and distant countries that emerged from the pages of National Geographic, magazines that my father collected and that completely captured my attention. At that moment I began to become seriously interested in photography, something I would never stop doing.

My experience in filmmaking has influenced my photography, but while my photos convey something, that something is only visual.

The value of my work is not simply in what it depicts, but rather in what it evokes. It is the colors, movements, and atmospheres that arise from interactions between people and spaces, or the sequence of images from a journey through the jungle, for example. While you can arrange the photos chronologically to see the route I took, the development of the journey is not the point. Rather, what matters is the image itself and the emotions and sensations it elicits.

In each photograph, I strive to capture the movements of shapes and colors that emerge from the rhythm of a town or the impact of light on a landscape. I usually spend time living in the places I photograph because I want to delve into the essence of those spaces and their people. It is said that in the past, some people believed that a photo stole their soul. Although this may not be true, as a photographer, my intention is not to steal souls, but to discover the soul of things and people and capture it through my photography.

I choose to use either black and white or color depending on the desired mood, atmosphere, or sensation for each image.

El interés en la fotografía comenzó en mi infancia, fascinado por las imágenes y las historias sobre otras culturas y países lejanos que surgían de las páginas de National Geographic, revistas que mi padre coleccionaba y que atraparon mi atención por completo. En ese momento comencé a interesarme seriamente en la fotografía, algo que jamás dejaría de hacer.

 Con el correr de los años mi trabajo como cineasta influyó en mi trabajo de fotógrafo. Aunque mis fotografías de alguna manera cuentan algo, ese algo es solo visual.

 El valor de mi obra está dado por la imagen misma y trasciende lo que representa, no es testimonial, son el color, el movimiento, el clima que surgen -por ejemplo- de la interacción entre la gente y el espacio o la secuencia de imágenes de un viaje a través de la selva. Puedes poner la serie de fotografías en orden cronológico y verás la ruta que hice, pero no sabrás cómo se desarrolló el viaje, porque no importa la anécdota, “importa la imagen”.

 En cada toma busco rescatar el movimiento de formas y colores que emana del ritmo de un pueblo o la incidencia que la luz tiene sobre un paisaje. Suelo pasar tiempo viviendo en los lugares que fotografío porque necesito adentrarme en el corazón de esos espacios y de esa gente. De algún modo quienes en el pasado pensaban que una foto les robaba su alma, no estaban tan equivocados, como fotógrafo mi intención no es robar almas, pero sí descubrir el alma de las cosas y las personas y plasmarlo en la fotografía.

Blanco y negro o color, corresponden al clima que busco darle a cada toma, a lo que cada lugar o persona me inspira.
