My Story

One TV station. No internet. Large gardens. Great weather. An abundance of nature and wildlife.

It’s hard to describe my childhood, but these phrases come close. Growing up in Zambia had its unique charms. We had to be creative to find entertainment outside school hours and a lot of that time was spent exploring the outdoors. I was fortunate to be in close proximity to the African flora and fauna.

The glaring contrasts between the urban city where I grew up and the wilderness were apparent to me from a young age; ecological, physical, visual, and mental. The serenity of these vast lands, the blissful feelings it created, and the excitement of spotting wildlife transpired within me; more so when I found photography (or when photography found me).

After completing high school, I pursued my further studies and a career in finance and management consulting in London, where I threw myself into the corporate world and eventually with a string of start-ups. I moved to Barcelona for love and a more balanced lifestyle, where I created and ran a firm that focussed on providing market research for Africa. As my firm progressed, it gave me one of the most underappreciated aspects of life: time. Time allowed me to explore, reflect, and experiment. And here is where my story really begins.

Una estación de televisión. Sin internet. Grandes jardines. Excelente clima. Abundancia de naturaleza y vida salvaje. Es difícil describir mi infancia, pero estas frases se acercan bastante. Crecer en Zambia tuvo sus encantos. Teníamos que ser creativos para encontrar entretenimiento después de las horas de escuela y mucho de ese tiempo lo pasábamos explorando el medio ambiente. Fui muy afortunado de estar tan cerca de la fauna y flora africana.

El evidente contraste entre la urbanización de la ciudad donde crecí y el desierto fuera de la ciudad se me develó a muy temprana edad, desde lo ecológico, lo físico, lo visual y lo mental. La serenidad de esas vastas tierras y la emoción de observar la vida silvestre crearon en mi la necesidad de registrarlo, sobre todo cuando encontré la fotografía o la fotografía me encontró a mí.

Luego de completar mi escuela secundaria, seguí una carrera en consultoría financiera y gestión de negocios en Londres, lo cual me llevo a entrar al mundo corporativo y eventualmente a involucrarme con empresas emergentes. Me mudé a Barcelona por amor y para tener un estilo de vida más equilibrado. Aquí fundé una firma que esta enfocada en proveer una investigación de mercado para África. A medida que mi firma fue progresando, ella me dio uno de los aspectos que había subestimado más en la vida: Tiempo. El tiempo me permitió explorar, reflexionar y experimentar y acá es donde mi historia realmente comienza.
